<p>This thread inspired me to ask my D if she got the e-mail. Turns out that she did! I don't think she is very excited about coming up with another essay in 10 days but I pointed out that $20,000 per year is a darn good part time job (since they are expected to put in 5-7 hours per week on the research project) and that we would contribute to her spending $ if she got this.So far my list is Tufts(visited and liked a lot), WUSTL, Brown, Urochester(visited and liked), and Bucknell. Tufts, WUSTL and Brown are all reaches. I am qualified for Bucknell and URochester (SAT-1430,2090 GPA(unw)-3.78) but they aren't safeties by any stretch. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get a sense of the social scene at each of these 3 schools, specifically with regard to sorority life. D19 has visited and likes them all. She is also considering a number of other schools, including some smaller LACs, e.g., NESCACs (with no greek life). We are at Bucknell, which seems to have everything my student is looking for, except the very remote location and climate. Size, prestige, academic heft are all there but Lewisburg, however quaint and charming, is truly remote. I get the impression that Bates is more hippie, crunchie than Bowdoin, Middlebury, Colgate or Hamilton. Academics strong at both schools. Business quite good at Villanova. Both have engineering. Bucknell probably stronger than Villanova for Humanities.
