The only difference between the devices is the XB8 offers a Tri-Band wireless connection whereas the XB7 offers a Dula-Band, and the number of connected ... The orange or red stripe port is actually a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port on the X7s and X8s. If the device is 1Gbps, it should be green -- well, if you've got a decent Ethernet cable. Cat6 at least. Update, after my initial fiasco of going in store, ordering online, getting an X1 box instead of modem, returning x1, ordering xb8 and getting an XB7, calling 3 times, I went to return the XB7 to my local store and to my surprise, the store had received an unexpected shipment of the XB8. I received via mail a new XB7 modem/router to replace my current Aris TG 1682G. I use the Aris in bridge mode and use an Orbi RBR50 for my router with one satellite for my 2700 square foot house. There was no instruction manual in the XB7 box. I want to simply switch out the Aris for the XB7 without a major hassle..
